Junior National Team Finalized

USA Baseball announced the 20 players who will participate in the Confederation of Pan American Baseball Federations AAA Pan-Am Junior Championships Aug. 24-Sept. 2. The 18-and-under junior national team was chosen from a pool of 32 players who competed in a week-long series of exhibition and intrasquad games in Joplin, Mo., this month. The trials roster was originally selected in June following the Tournament of Stars at USA Baseball's national training complex in Cary, N.C.
The junior national team features 17 rising seniors, two rising juniors and one player who graduated from high school in 2007, but met the birthday requirement for qualification for competition.
Victor Solis, the head coach at Gateway (Ariz.) Community College and a veteran of USA Baseball coaching staffs, will serve as the junior national team head coach.
The team departed for Ixtapa, Mexico, Aug. 23. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2008 World Championships.
